Varanasi, Jan. 25 -- A Samajwadi Party (SP) delegation, led by Chandauli MP Virendra Singh, attempted to reach Manikarnika Ghat on Sunday to "ascertain the truth about the alleged desecration of idols", but was stopped by police, leading to a clash between the SP workers and the police.
Considering the security situation, the police administration stopped Samajwadi Party leaders in various parts of the city and detained several of them.
After being stopped by police from reaching the ghat, MP Virendra Singh, sat on a dharna with his workers outside his residence in Tagore Town Colony, Ardal Bazar.
