Ahmedabad, Feb. 11 -- South Africa defeated Afghanistan in a dramatic T20 World Cup contest that extended into a second Super Over after both sides remained locked at multiple stages at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on Wednesday.
Batting first, South Africa posted 187 for 6 in their 20 overs. Afghanistan matched the total in 19.4 overs to force a Super Over. The first Super Over also ended level at 17 runs apiece, necessitating a second tie-breaker.
In the decisive Super Over, South Africa scored 23, while Afghanistan managed 19 for the loss of two wickets.
Earlier, South Africa opted to bat and were powered by a 114-run stand for the second wicket between Quinton de Kock (59) and Ryan Rickelton (61).
