Shillong, March 14 -- Meghalaya police have arrested six people, including two kingpins from Haryana, in connection with a series of ATM heists, where nearly Rs. one crore was stolen, a police official said on Friday.
The ATM heist occurred at three locations in Mawkriah village, Smit village and Mylliem village under East Khasi Hills district between May 2025 and February 2026, Vivek Syiem, the district police chief of East Khasi Hills, said.
He said the first ATM robbery occurred on May 21, 2025, when miscreants broke into an ATM booth at Mawkriah village, and took away Rs 28.13 lakh in cash.
Subsequently on December 30, 2025, another ATM booth at Smit village was targeted and cash Rs. 35.57 lakh was stolen, the police official said.
