Barabanki, Feb. 4 -- Thieves carried out a major theft at the Shri Avasaneshwar Mahadev Temple in Haidergarh, Barabanki, on Tuesday night.
The miscreants entered the temple's sanctum sanctorum and fled with around eight kilograms of silver items, including a silver canopy and other valuable ritual materials, police said on Wednesday. The stolen property is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 25 lakh.
The theft came to light on Wednesday morning when the temple priest arrived and found the lock broken and temple belongings scattered. Upon receiving information, the local police and a forensic team rushed to the spot and began a detailed investigation. CCTV footage from the temple premises and nearby routes is also being examined.
