Shimla, July 16 -- A major reshuffle in the Himachal Pradesh Police is likely with the imminent return of 1990-batch IPS officer Shyam Bhagat Negi to his parent cadre.

The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved Negi's repatriation from Central deputation, where he is serving as special secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat.

With this clearance, the state government is expected to appoint him as the next Director General of Police (DGP). Negi, a native of Kinnaur district, is the senior-most IPS officer of the Himachal cadre and will retire on March 31, 2026, giving him nearly eight months in office if appointed.
