Bengaluru, Feb. 17 -- Allegations of large-scale discrepancies in the voters' list ahead of the Greater Bengaluru Authority and other local body elections have emerged as a major political flashpoint in Karnataka.

The controversy gathered pace after Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar met the State Election Commission officers and flagged what he described as "numerous discrepancies" in the electoral rolls.

Shivakumar alleged that certain Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were indulging in "mischief in voter mapping" and urged the Commission to immediately suspend officials found responsible for irregularities.
