Shillong, Nov. 6 -- Shad Nongkrem, one of the major indigenous religious and cultural festivals of the indigenous Khasi community and Wangala, socio-cultural and religiousfestival of the indigenous Garos, were celebrated in Meghalaya on Thursday.

"Shad Nongkrem or 'Nongkrem Dance' stands as a vibrant expression of Khasi culture and tradition. May this celebration deepen our sense of togetherness and usher in peace and harmony across our State and country," Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said as he greeted the people onthe occasion.

Shad Nongrem is celebrated at Smit Village, headquarters of the Khasi state of Hima Khyrim, 20 km from Shillong during autumn every year.
