Srinagar, March 17 -- Shab-e-Qadr, also known as Laylat-ul-Qadr, was observed with deep religious fervour across the Kashmir Valley, as thousands of devotees thronged mosques and shrines for night-long prayers.
Prayers were held at all major religious places across the Valley, barring the historic Jamia Masjid, where authorities prohibited the night-long congregational prayers for the seventh consecutive year. Authorities also placed Kashmir's chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house detention.
Worshippers remained engaged in supplications, recitation of the Holy Quran, and special traweeh prayers through the night until early morning.
