Agra, Feb. 10 -- The scheduled visit of Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie and his wife to the Taj Mahal on Tuesday morning has been cancelled, the Archaeological Department said.

The iconic monument, which would have been closed to general visitors for three hours in preparation for the visit, was instead opened as usual. The Taj Mahal had been planned to close from 9 am and reopen around 12 noon.

President Herminie was expected to arrive at Kheria Airport by a special plane at 9 am, and travel by car to Shilpgram, where he would have been welcomed by local officials. A peacock dance was also planned to showcase Indian culture. From Shilpgram, he would have proceeded to the Taj Mahal by golf cart.
