Shillong, Oct. 5 -- Justice Soumen Sen would be sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court on October 8. Sen will be the 14th Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.

Meghalaya governor Chandrashekhar H. Vijayashankar administered the oath of office to Sen at the Raj Bhavan here.

Justice Hamarsan Sing Thangkhiew had been functioning as acting Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court after Chief Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji retired from the position on September 5, 2025, upon reaching the age of superannuation.

President Droupadi Murmu on September 26 appointed Sen, currently a judge of the Calcutta High Court, as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court following the recommendation of the Supreme Court collegium.
