Chandigarh, Jan. 24 -- Security arrangements at Amritsar railway station have been strengthened ahead of Republic Day, following a recent blast reported on a railway track in the Sirhind area of Punjab.

In view of the heightened security alert, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) have launched a joint and extensive checking operation to prevent any untoward incident.

As part of the security exercise, thorough inspections are being conducted inside trains stationed at and passing through the station. Passengers' luggage, including bags and suitcases, is being carefully checked by security personnel to detect any suspicious items.
