Alappuzha, Feb. 20 -- In a shocking case of alleged medical negligence, a pair of surgical scissors was discovered inside a 51-year-old woman's abdomen nearly five years after she underwent a hysterectomy at the Government Medical College Hospital, Vandanam.

The patient, Usha Joseph, a native of Punnapra in Alappuzha district, had undergone the surgical removal of her uterus on May 3, 2021.

Following the procedure, she reportedly suffered persistent abdominal pain and recurring urinary complications. Family members said the symptoms were initially attributed to other health issues, and no suspicion was raised about a retained surgical instrument.
