Gadchiroli, Feb. 1 -- Gadchiroli police have arrested a peon of a government residential school in Aheri taluka for allegedly assaulting 12 students on suspicion of mobile phone theft, police said.

According to police, the incident took place on Saturday afternoon between 12 noon and 1 pm at a government residential school in Wangepalli village.

The accused has been identified as Ajay Ramesh Chandragiriwar (27), a resident of Khamancheeru village in Aheri taluka, who was working as a peon at the school.

Police said Chandragiriwar questioned a Class VII student, Piyush Talande (13), along with 11 other younger students, accusing them of stealing a mobile phone.
