New Delhi, Jan. 29 -- The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its judgment on a batch of petitions challenging the legality of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls undertaken by the Election Commission of India (ECI) across several states and union Territories.

The court is examining whether the ECI is empowered under Article 326 of the Constitution, the Representation of the People Act, 1950, and the rules framed thereunder to conduct the SIR in its present form.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi reserved the matter after extensive hearings that have been ongoing since November 2025.
