Ashok RainaPalampur, April 29 -- Former Chief Minister and former union Minister Shanta Kumar has welcomed the Supreme Court's decision to set aside the government's move to divert land belonging to the Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University for tourism purposes.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Kumar said the state government had proposed to hand over university land for tourism development. This matter went from the High Court to the Supreme Court. The apex court, he noted, rejected the government's decision, providing significant relief to the region.
Expressing gratitude to the court, Kumar said the verdict was in the larger public interest and protected valuable institutional land.
