New Delhi, Jan. 19 -- The Supreme Court on Monday renewed its notice to Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar in connection with the long-pending case relating to the alleged defection of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs, intensifying judicial scrutiny over the Speaker's inaction.

The apex court had earlier issued a contempt notice to the Speaker in November last year for failure to comply with its directions. The matter has now been listed for further hearing on February 6.

A Bench headed by Justice Sanjay Karol was hearing a petition filed by the Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which was tagged with an already pending matter arising out of the same defection dispute.
