New Delhi, Sept. 24 -- The Supreme Court today imposed a cost of Rs 50,000 on the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa (BCMG) for entertaining a frivolous complaint against an advocate.
The amount has been directed to be paid to the advocate who faced the proceedings.
A bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta passed the order while dismissing an appeal filed by BCMG challenging a Bombay High Court order that had stayed disciplinary proceedings against the advocate.
The matter originated from a complaint before BCMG alleging misconduct by the advocate in connection with settlement terms in a civil suit filed in 1985, where the advocate had represented the plaintiff.
