New Delhi, Dec. 8 -- The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday granted bail to Joynal Abedin, a suspended professor of Gossaigaon College in Assam, who was arrested for allegedly posting anti-India and obscene content on social media.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, however, made it clear that the bail order must not be treated as a ground for reinstating him in service.

The Court noted that Abedin has been in custody for six months and that the trial is likely to take considerable time, with the prosecution still required to examine four witnesses.
