Chandigarh, Feb. 2 -- In a major legal reprieve for the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab, the Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to former Punjab Minister Bikram Singh Majithia in a high-profile corruption case. Majithia had been incarcerated in Nabha Jail for the past seven months following allegations by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau regarding the accumulation of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The news of his release was confirmed by party spokesperson Arshdeep Singh Kaler shortly after the court proceedings.
