New Delhi, Feb. 9 -- The Supreme Court on Monday extended by one week the deadline for completing scrutiny of documents submitted by affected persons in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal, citing the induction of a new set of government officials into the process.
The bench directed that Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) be given additional time beyond February 14 to complete scrutiny and take final decisions.
The court noted that the West Bengal government had submitted a list of 8,505 Group B officers to the Election Commission (EC), who could be trained and deployed for the SIR exercise.
