New Delhi, Sept. 22 -- The Supreme Court today rejected a challenge to the Andhra Pradesh High Court's interim order, which had stayed a Single Judge's direction restraining the lease of Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple land in Machilipatnam to a private society for Dasara celebrations.

A Bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra dismissed the plea, observing that the High Court Division Bench's order was only interim in nature.

Senior Advocates Ranjith Kumar and Nachiketa Joshi appeared for the petitioners. The dispute arose after land belonging to the temple was proposed to be leased by the Endowments Commissioner to the Society for Vibrant Vijayawada for a period of 56 days against a payment of Rs 45 lakh. The...
