Raichur, Jan. 20 -- Janata Dal (Secular) legislator from Devadurga constituency, Karemma G Nayak, has alleged that members of an illegal sand mining syndicate directly threatened her in an attempt to stop action against unlawful sand extraction in Raichur district.
Addressing reporters, the MLA said the alleged intimidation took place at her residence located in the police quarters, raising serious concerns over law and order and the safety of elected representatives.
Karemma stated that large quantities of sand were being transported illegally by lorries without valid permits or tenders in Devadurga taluk.
She said repeated efforts to curb the illegal activity had triggered hostility from vested interests involved in the sand mafia.
