New Delhi, Aug. 26 -- In a significant boost to India's indigenous Defence capabilities, the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has supplied about 8,000 tonnes of critical-grade steel for the Indian Navy's newly commissioned frontline frigates - INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri.

The two advanced frigates were commissioned today at a ceremony in Visakhapatnam, presided over by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

SAIL played a crucial role in the construction of INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri by supplying vital hot-rolled sheets and plates from its Bokaro, Bhilai, and Rourkela Steel Plants.
