Chandigarh, April 22 -- The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Tuesday demanded immediate conduct of girdawari for losses to standing wheat crop due to recent hail storms and heavy rain across the state, particularly in the Kandi belt including Ropar and Noorpur Bedi areas.

In a statement here, Senior SAD leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said besides compensation for losses to standing wheat crops due to inclement weather, farmers whose wheat crops were destroyed due to fires should be given compensation immediately.

Dr Cheema said it was condemnable that instead of rising to the situation and providing succor to the suffering farmers, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government was oblivious to the situation.
