Thrissur, Feb. 9 -- Kerala Sahitya Academy President and a known leftist K Sachidanandan's comment that when power was monopolised, it often degenerated into misrule, has stirred a political debate at a time when the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) was eyeing for a third consecutive term in Kerala.
Sachidanandan made a remark in which he cautioned against the danger of continuous rule, citing West Bengal as a warning example.
"What democracy needed was not continuous governance by the same dispensation, but altering governments," he said underlying the importance of political change as a safeguard against abuse of power, he said in an interview to a leading Malayalam paper.
