Jammu, Jan. 21 -- A joint team of the Army and Police on Wednesday recovered a rusted mortar shell and grenades during routine patrolling in a river bed in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Official sources said that ahead of Republic Day celebrations, army and police teams were conducting a routine patrol close to the border and found an abandoned sandbag in the river bed at the village Sangam in Basantar in Samba district.

"During the search, an old mortar shell and live grenades were found in the bag," they said. They added that the ammunition was seized on the spot while the searches were intensified.
