Moscow, Aug. 2 -- Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov on Saturday congratulated serving and veteran paratroopers on Russian Airborne Troops Day, praising the 99 paratroopers who had been named Heroes of Russia since the special military operation began in 2022.
"The heroism of the winged infantry was tempered in the battles of the Great Patriotic War, in Afghanistan, Yugoslavia, the North Caucasus, Syria and many other hot spots. In the times of the special military operation, the personnel of the Airborne Forces are acting skillfully and decisively in key areas and directions. For their courage and heroism, 99 people have been awarded the high title of the Hero of Russia," Belousov said in a statement.
