Nagpur, March 31 -- Senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Suresh 'Bhaiyyaji' Joshi termed the ongoing debate over Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's tomb as unnecessary, amid demands from certain right-wing groups seeking its removal.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event in Nagpur on Monday, Joshi said the tomb, located in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, exists because Aurangzeb died in India.

He added that those who hold faith in the site are free to visit it.

The remarks come in the backdrop of statements by Maharashtra Navanirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, who had criticised attempts to stoke communal tensions over the issue.
