Mumbai, Dec. 30 -- The Republican Party of India (Athawale faction) has formally withdrawn its support to the ruling Mahayuti alliance and announced its candidates for upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

With the declaration of 39 candidates by RPI (A), the Mahayuti now faces not only a challenge from opposition parties and the Thackeray brothers, but also from its former ally.

Speaking against alliance partners-particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Union Minister of State for Social Justice and National President of RPI, Ramdas Athawale, accused them of betrayal over seat-sharing arrangements.
