Kolkata, March 23 -- A fresh political controversy has surfaced in the midst of the Bengal election season after plans emerged for a religious ceremony that may effectively inaugurate the newly built "Gateway of Kolkata," a tourism project conceived by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The project, formally known as the 'Jugpurush Omkarnath Toran', has been completed by the state tourism department. However, with the Model Code of Conduct in force following the announcement of Assembly elections, the Chief Minister has not been able to officially inaugurate it.
