Meerut, Sept. 1 -- A tragic incident struck the P-Block of Meerut Police lines yesterday evening when the roof of a dilapidated government quarter caved in, trapping eight members of a family under debris.
The victims included Omkar Singh (55), a differently-abled tailor employed in the police department; his wife, Suman (50); sons Vishal (35) and Akash (30); Vishal's wife, Pinky (32); and three children: Aashu, Nitya, and Laddu.
The collapse occurred around 7:30pm while the family was preparing dinner. The decades-old structure, already in a deteriorated state, suddenly gave way. Nearby residents rushed to help after hearing a loud crash and cries for assistance.
