Alappuzha, Feb. 20 -- In a landmark moment for Kerala's temple traditions, Voices for Asian Elephants (VFAE) has unveiled life-sized robotic elephants at two temples in this district, marking the first time temples in the district have replaced live captive elephants with a humane alternative.
It is also the first instance of a nonprofit launching two robotic elephants in a single Kerala district on the same day. The robotic elephants - Neelamkulangara Vishnudasan and Omkareswaram Rama Senapathy - were ceremonially welcomed with traditional music and rituals at the Panavally Neelamkulangara Sree Narayana Vilasam Sree Maha Vishnu Kshethram and the Omkareswaram Sree Rama Subrahmanya Temple respectively.
