Chennai, Dec. 2 -- The remnant of Cyclonic Storm Ditwah, which had weakened intoDeep Depression, further weakened as a Depression today, and was lying about 40 kmfrom Chennai coast, even as the city and its neighbouring districts continued to experienceheavy rains.
The Met office, which has issued Red Alert to neighbouringTiruvallur district, whichreceived torrential downpoour, has downgraded it to Orange alert.
A similar Orange alert was also issued to Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu andinterior Ranipet district for the day.
The Tamil Nadu government has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges for theday in view of heavy rains forecast by the Met department.
