Thiruvananthapuram, Feb. 11 -- The sight of rats scurrying across cremation platforms at Shantikavadam, the Kerala capital's crematorium in Thycaud, has sparked outrage and deep concern over the deplorable conditions at the facility, raising troubling questions about dignity even in death.

Congress leader and former minister V.S. Sivakumar highlighted the issue after visiting the crematorium along with UDF councillors of the Corporation, following growing complaints that its functioning has severely deteriorated.

Staff at the crematorium reportedly informed the delegation that rats and other animals are frequently seen moving around the cremation areas, even during cremations.
