Shimla, Oct. 25 -- Prominent tribal activist Ratna Manjari, who has long championed the cause of tribal women's ancestral property rights, has responded to the Supreme Court's recent order clarifying that the Hindu Succession Act does not apply to members of Scheduled Tribes unless specifically notified by the Central Government.
Manjari urged the Central Government to amend existing laws to ensure equal property rights for women belonging to Scheduled Tribes.
Ratna Manjari, the state's first female Panchayat head, said that her organisation, the Mahila Kalyan Parishad, filed a petition in the state High Court in 2019 to secure ancestral property rights for tribal women. The case is pending before the court. She hopes the decision will be...
