Shimla, Jan. 21 -- A Western Disturbance will become active in Himachal Pradesh from January 22, after which there are chances of continuous rain and snowfall for five days.
According to the Meteorological Department's forecast, heavy snowfall is expected in higher altitude areas on January 23, for which the department has issued an orange alert.
Heavy snowfall in the upper reaches of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, Kullu and Shimla districts is likely to cause road closures, disruption of power and communication services, and a sharp drop in temperature.
