Phagwara, June 24 -- In a case of fraud and intimidation, the City police have arrested a youth for allegedly extorting Rs 2 lakh from a woman under the pretext of securing the release of her acquaintance who had been arrested in a narcotics case.
According to SSP Gaurav Toora, the incident came to light when SHO City, Usha Rani, received a complaint from Baljit Kaur of Prempura, Phagwara.
Baljit informed the police that her friend, Tejvir Singh alias Patwari of Model Town, had been arrested by the police on June 19 and no further information about him was available.
Baljit further stated that she had sought assistance from another acquaintance, Mann Sharma, to find out about Tejvir's whereabouts.
