Chandigarh, Sept. 14 -- In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Ferozepur Police arrested one individual and seized 15.7 kilograms of heroin, thwarting a cross-border smuggling attempt, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced today.

The operation aligns with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann's directive to make Punjab drug-free.

The arrested suspect, identified as Sonu Singh from Habibwala in Ferozepur, has no prior criminal record.

Initial investigations reveal that the drug network is allegedly operated by an individual incarcerated in Kapurthala jail, with the heroin consignment originating from Pakistan-based smugglers, DGP Yadav stated.
