Chandigarh, April 16 -- The Punjab government has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court with a petition seeking to keep Khadoor Sahib Member of Parliament Amritpal Singh incarcerated at Dibrugarh Jail in Assam, even after his current detention under the National Security Act (NSA) concludes.

The state government argued that Amritpal's third term of detention under the NSA is set to expire on April 22, and bringing him back to Punjab at this juncture could trigger a significant law and order crisis.

Citing sensitive intelligence reports and security concerns, the state's counsel emphasized that the administration prefers he remain in Assam rather than being transferred back to his home state.
