Bengaluru, Jan. 19 -- Priyank Kharge, Karnataka minister in charge of the Rural Development Department, is at the centre of allegations that thousands of crores of rupees allocated under the 15th Finance Commission were diverted in violation of constitutional norms, with the BJP on Monday accusing his department of orchestrating a systematic misuse of Central funds.

State BJP General Secretary P Rajeev alleged that the diversion of tied grants to gram panchayats could not have occurred without political clearance from the department headed by Kharge. He said the Rural Development Department, which functions under Kharge's leadership, was responsible for the allocation and routing of Finance Commission funds.
