New Delhi, Jan. 28 -- President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday castigated ''Macaulay's conspiracies'' for having ''instilled a sense of inferiority'' among people during the colonial era and called for giving equal importance to national self-respect and cultural pride as well as modern development.

Addressing a joint sitting of Parliament on the opening day of the Budget Session, the President said that to reach the goal of Viksit Bharat, as much importance is required to be given to national self-respect and cultural pride as to modern development.
