Shimla, Feb. 19 -- The Election Commission of India has initiated the preparatory phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Himachal Pradesh, triggering political debate in the state.

In a communication dated February 19, 2026, the Commission directed the Chief Electoral Officer of Himachal Pradesh and other states to complete preparatory work for the SIR, which is scheduled to begin in April 2026.
