Bhubaneswar, May 28 -- Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday urged Union Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, to facilitate the proposed expansion and upgradation of Sambalpur Zoo.

During a meeting with Yadav in New Delhi, Pradhan highlighted that in 2023, the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) designated the facility as the "Sambalpur Zoo and Conservation Centre".

Established in 1980, the zoo has grown from a modest deer park into a vital hub for wildlife conservation and public education.

Currently spread across 13 hectares within the Motijharan Reserve Forest, the zoo houses 333 animals belonging to 15 species, including leopards, bears, pythons, and peacocks.
