Islamabad, May 20 -- Pakistan's federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, today approved the proposal to promote Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir to the rank of field marshal.
The decision comes in recognition of his "unparalleled military leadership" during the "Marka-e-Haq" conflict with India.
The federal cabinet meeting discussed a five-point agenda, including the country's overall political, economic, and security situation, as well as budget proposals for the next fiscal year.
The key highlight of the meeting was the unanimous approval of General Asim Munir's elevation in military rank - a rare honour in Pakistan's history.
