Beed, Feb. 6 -- Police have registered a criminal case against relatives from both the bride and groom's families after foiling the marriage of a minor girl in Kapildhar village of Beed district.

The incident came to light when police intervened during the wedding ceremony and stopped the illegal marriage at a local religious place, an official said on Friday.

According to the police, the marriage of a 16-year-old girl was being solemnised at Kapildhar. The wedding rituals had already begun, and the ceremony reached the stage of kanyadaan when police arrived at the venue. On noticing the police presence, the groom and members of the wedding procession immediately fled from the spot. The police took the minor girl into protective custody....
