Warsaw, Aug. 30 -- Poland has pledged to increase its defence spending by 4.8 pc of its total GDP by 2026, which will make it the NATO member with the highest defence expenditure, surpassing even the United States, whose defence budget currently accounts for over 3.4% of its GDP, reports RT.
The move was announced by Polish Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski, who said that Warsaw will allocate a record 200 billion zloty ($55 billion) to its military budget by 2026, under a new defence budget draft.
The Slavic state's Prime Minister Donald Tusk had affirmed the national commitment for security, and emphasised that Poland must build "a modern, large army" regardless of the costs.
