Chennai, Nov. 22 -- Popular poet and Sahitya Akademi award winner Erode Tamilanban diedhere on Saturday due to old age.
He ws 92.
A popular face in the the Tamil literary world, he was multi-faceted personality and was formernewsreader with the Doordarshan.
Well known for his flawless pronounciation and intonation, Tamilanban, who had served as aTamil professor at the New College in Chennai, was well versed both the traditional poemand new generation poetry and had contributed fo rthe growth of Tamil language.
Born as N. Jagadeesan in Chennimalai in Erode district, Tamilanban had the honour ofbeing closely associated with renowed poet Paavendhar Bharatidasan, Tamil Nadu ChiefMinister M K Stalin recalled in his condolence message.
