Balasore, Nov. 30 -- The Special Judge, POCSO Court, Indira Priyadarshini, has convicted a 65-year-old man for raping an 11-year-old girl and sentenced him to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000.
Announcing the judgement, on Saturday, the court said that in default of payment of the fine, the convict has to undergo an additional year of rigorous imprisonment.
According to Special Public Prosecutor Pranab Panda, the convict, Benudhar Mohanty of Sendiri village under Singla police limits, committed the offence on January 28, 2025.
The incident occurred when the victim had gone to a nearby sugarcane field, where Mohanty lured her with the promise of giving her sugarcane and then sexually assaulted her.
