Guwahati, Oct. 15 -- An unidentified poacher was killed during a gunfight between alert forest guards of Kaziranga National Park and poachers, park officials said today.

Park officials said that based on inputs about the movement of armed poachers in Kaziranga National Park, all anti-poaching camps were alerted to comb the park and cordon off all exit routes since Tuesday night.

"At around 2:50 am on today, the river patrolling team of Burhapahar Range noticed light from an unknown object in Maite Tapu inside the park," the officials said.

"On further search of the area, movement of a group of armed poachers was noticed. When they were asked to stop and reveal themselves, the armed poachers opened fire upon the forest team," they said, a...
