Chandigarh, Sept. 9 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit flood-affected areas in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh today, marking his first tour of the regions since devastating floods struck.

Both states have been declared flood-hit by their respective governments, prompting urgent calls for central assistance.

In Punjab, PM Modi is expected to conduct an aerial survey of the flood-affected zones, followed by meetings with victims in Pathankot and Gurdaspur. Stringent security arrangements have been put in place in both districts to facilitate the visit.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government has requested a relief package of Rs 80,000 crore from the central government to address the extensive damage.
